Eucalyptus globulus

 Australian Fever or Gum Tree. Myrtacea.
 A tree of great height, native to Australia, transplanted to marshy districts in mild climates on account of its capability for absorbing water and alleged power to destroy malarious poisons. The tincture is prepared from the fresh leaves.
 Eucalyptol is the essential oil.

 Mental exhilaration.
 Irresistible desire to move about, with a feeling of buoyancy and increased strength.
 Stimulation, intoxication ; excitement even unto fever.
 Drunkenness, followed by mental depression and exhaustion.
 Drowsy and dull.

 Vertigo.
 Cerebral congestion, with much excitement.
 General full feeling in head ; congestive headache.
 Congestive headache, in plethoric subjects, followed by actual fever.
 Dull frontal headache.
 Nervous headache and other pains of head, which are not exactly periodic.
 Headache in anemic persons ; relieves the pain and causes sleep.
 Dimness of vision.
 Eyes hot, burning, smarting.
 Catarrhal and gonorrhoeal ophthalmia.
 Eyelids heavy.
 Stiffness of nose.
 Stuffed up sensation in nose.
 Considerable coryza ; cold in head.
 Thin, watery coryza.
 Chronic catarrh of nasal passages, even when purulent and fetid.
 Flushed face, congested appearance.

 Relaxed, aphthous condition.
 Excessive secretion of saliva.
 Burning sensation, extending to pharynx and oesophagus, with thirst.
 Feeling of fulness and soreness in throat on swallowing ; burning in throat.
 Constant sensation of phlegm in throat, with expectoration of slightly thick white frothy mucus, not profuse.
 Throat relaxed and pale.
 Bronchitis in old and feeble persons.

 Increased appetite ; tormenting thirst.

 Burning, strong smelling eructations.
 Hot burning sensation in stomach.
 Fulness, pressure and weight in stomach ; as if he had eaten too much.
 Faintness and goneness at stomach, accompanied by a distinct sensation of beating synchronous with heart.
 Difficult and painful digestion.
 Slow digestion ; eructations and bloating.
 Atonic dyspepsia ; chronic, gastric and intestinal catarrh.
 Produces contraction of spleen, which, under its use, becomes more resistant and hard, its surface granulated and the whole organ diminished in size.
 Feeling of weight in epigastrium.
 Burning in epigastric and umbilical regions, with tormenting thirst, vertigo, dimness of vision, sense of fulness in head, with dull frontal headache, and tightness across bridge of nose, as if profuse epistaxis would occur.
 Uncomfortable pressure and fulness in umbilical region.
 Uncomfortable, uneasy feeling in umbilical region, extending through bowels ; skirmishing, aching pains in upper portions of bowels ; sensation as if he would have diarrhoea.
 Sharp, aching pain in hypogastric region after dinner.
 Gastro-intestinal derangements ; sleeplessness and restlessness.
 Sharp, aching pains in lower part of bowels, with thin, watery yellow diarrhoea, on rising in morning.
 Violent purgation and hemorrhage from bowels.
 Chronic diarrhoea, mucous and bloody.
 Dysentery, with heat in rectum, tenesmus, discharge of mucus, great prostration ; hemorrhage from bowels.
 Typhoid diarrhoea and dysentery.

 ** сhronic desquamative nephritis, granular degeneration of kidneys, pyelonephritis, and hydronephrosis.
 Vesical catarrh.
 Sensation as if the bladder had lost its expulsive force.
 Suppressed urine.

 Asthma humidum in bronchitic patients ; relieves bronchial cough, and aids in expelling thick sputa.
 Cardiac asthma ; allays the terrible dyspnoea.
 Asthmatic neuralgic states from organic and mechanical causes, with orthopnea and nocturnal paroxysms.
 Expectoration of white, thick, frothy mucus.
 ** сhronic catarrhal affections of broncho-pulmonary mucous membrane, accompanied by free muco-purulent expectoration ; bronchorrhoea.

 Painful palpitation.
 ** At the climacteric, in women who suffer much from flatulence, palpitation of heart, and sudden flushings of face.
 Strong beating of abdominal aorta synchronous with beating of heart.
 Aneurisms involving pressure on vagus and its branches.
 Pulse accelerated.

 Pricking sensation, followed by painful aching, in arms and legs, with sense of fulness in veins, and a stiff, weary sensation, as if too lazy to move.
 Pains rheumatic, jerking, tearing, stitch-like, worse at night.
 Can neither walk nor carry anything without great pain.
 Nodular swellings over metacarpal and metatarsal joints.
 Raising arm to mouth is painful.
 Irresistible desire to move about.

 General excitement and desire for exercise.
 Malaise ; faintness ; great prostration.
 Intermittent neuralgia.
 Nervous : headache.
 Smarting : in eyes.
 Soreness : of throat.
 Tightness : across bridge of nose.
 Weight : in stomach ; in epigastrium.
 Faintness : in stomach.
 Goneness : in stomach.
 Cord and medulla paralyzed.
 ** It possesses decided anti-periodic powers.
 Violent palpitation of heart ; blood pressure lessened.
 Temperature greatly lowered ; asthenic fever.
 Remittent fevers and ague.
 Spleen contracted ; fatty degeneration.
 ** Muscular weakness extreme, so that raising arm to mouth is painful ; sensations blunted, but mind absolutely unaffected.
 ** Is a diuretic of rare virtue, showing notably restorative effects in low states of the system, as in typhoid fever, typhoid diarrhoea, and dysentery ; it relieves spasmodic strictures, vesical catarrh, and cures gonorrhoea.
 Diuresis, with enormous increase of urea.
 ** The condition of the mucous membrane which favors production of intestinal parasites is removed.
 ** Is a powerful diaphoretic ; has been used with fine results in exhaustive night sweats, also for herpetic eruptions, glandular enlargements, and indolent ulcers.
 Fistulous ulcers, discharging ichorous matter, of a fetid odor ; wounds and ulcers of a putrid septic character.
 ** Externally, the tincture and distilled water are used as disinfectant applications, to foul-smelling and ill-conditioned ulcers and wounds.

 Sleeplessness.
 Morning : on rising pains in bowels with watery diarrhoea.
 By day : diuresis.
 By night : diuresis ; asthmatic paroxysms ; pains in limbs.

 Fall of temperature.
 Fevers of a relapsing, obstinate and prolonged character, of a miasmatic origin, in which spleen becomes affected early in disease ; it is at first swollen and sensitive, then becomes more resistant, harder, bunchy on its surface ; vertigo is pronounced in all its stages ; dull congestive headache ; malaise ; rheumatic pains of a jerking, tearing, stitching character, worse at night.
 Tuberculous hectic fevers, with profuse, exhaustive sweats.
 ** Is very serviceable in convalescence from intermittent and remittent fevers ; and in chronic malarial poisoning it has a high degree of utility.
 Intermittent fever, quotidian tertian and double tertian.
 Typhoid fevers.
 Odorous sweat.
 Paroxysms of asthmatics.
 Nervous headache not exactly periodic.
 Right : swelling below nipples size of filbert.

 Feels as if he had taken cold.
 Nose as if stuffed up ; weight in stomach as if he had eaten too much ; feels as if he would have diarrhoea ; as if bladder had lost its expulsive force ; as if too lazy to move.
 Pains in head : painful palpitation.
 Severe pain : on urinating.
 Tearing pains : in limbs.
 Stabbing darting pains : in swelling below nipple.
 Jerking pains : in limbs.
 Pricking : in arms and legs.
 Sharp aching pains : in hypogastric region ; in lower part of bowels.
 Painful aching : in arms and legs.
 Skirmishing, aching pains : in upper portion of bowels.
 Burning : of eyes ; in pharynx and oesophagus ; in throat ; in stomach ; in epigastrium ; in umbilical region.
 Rheumatic pains : in limbs.
 Dull feeling : in head ; in throat ; in stomach ; in umbilical region ; in veins of arms and legs.
 Pressure : in stomach ; in umbilical region.
 Heat : in rectum.

 Eruptions of a herpetic character, glandular enlargement, and development of foul and indolent ulcers.
 Ulcers from a varix, of a year’s duration.

 Quinine cachexia.
 Miss M., at. 6, after recovery from attack of meningitis ; dysuria.
