 Myrtle. Myrtacea.
 A cultivated shrub or small tree native to countries bordering on the Mediterranean. It is mentioned by Hippocrates, Galen, Dioscorides, the Arabians and other ancient writers (see article by Hering, Hah. Mo., vol. 7, p. 62, 1871).
 No provings.

Mouth and throat

 Dryness in throat ; pains in throat and chest, with expectoration of blood.

Chest organs

 Dry, hollow cough, from tickling in upper anterior lobes of lungs ; worse in morning, better in evening ; great lassitude in afternoon.
 Cough with tickling in chest.
 Cough, coryza and catarrhal fever, setting in with every atmospheric change.
 Catarrhal fevers, with pain in elbow and knee joints, with dry, hollow cough, caused by a tickling in upper and front part of lungs, especially in morning, better in evening, accompanied by lassitude in afternoon.
 Pain in chest ; cough, with tightness on breast.
 Acute pain in chest ; pressing pain in chest.
 Pain in upper part of left chest through to shoulder, worse taking a deep breath and making a strong motion.
 Stitching pain in left chest ; from upper portion straight through to left shoulder blade, worse from breathing, yawning and coughing. θ Tuberculosis.
 Burning pain in left chest, with throbbing, aching, tickling.
 Throbbing ache and stitching pain in left infraclavicular region, extending thence through to left shoulder blade, worse on deep inspiration ; sensation of burning in left breast. θ Tuberculosis.
 Hamoptysis in tuberculous subjects ; acute pains in superior portions of left chest, radiating backwards to point of scapula of sound side.
 Hepatization of left lung.
 Useful in phthisis, particularly if caused by maltreated syphilis.
 Morning : cough.
 Afternoon : great lassitude.
 Evening : cough ; tickling in lung .

Common symptoms

 Every atmospheric change ; cough, coryza and catarrhal fevers.
 Left : stitching pain in chest through to shoulder blade ; burning pain in chest ; pain in infraclavicular region ; burning in breast, acute pains in superior portion of chest ; hepatization of lung.
 Pain : in throat and chest ; in elbow and knee joint ; in upper part of left chest to shoulder.
 Acute pain : in chest ; in superior portion of left chest.
 Stitching pain : in left chest ; in left infraclavicular region.
 Pressing pain : in chest.
 Burning pain : in left chest.
 Tickling : in upper anterior lobes of lungs ; in chest.
 Dryness : in throat.
 Tightness : on breast.

Patient type and constitution

 Young man, tuberculous ; coryza, cough, etc.
 A nun who had been homeopathically cured of phthisis brought on by long continued use of Quinine for ague, from which she had suffered for five years ; pain in left chest.

 Compare : вryon., Phosphor., Pix, Therid. and Sulphur in stitches through upper left chest.
