Additional facts

 Jaborandi. Rutacea.
 A tree attaining a height of more than twenty feet, native to вrazil. The blossoms, which appear in September, are large and violet colored ; it is from them the alcoholic tincture is prepared. The Jaborandi is used by South American Indians as antidote to the bite of serpents of the Trigonecephalus group.
 The substance contains an alkaloid passing under the name of Jaborandine, or Pilocarpia, and is used by the old school as a diaphoretic.
 Physiological effects from infusions, extracts and powdered leaves have been reported by Gubler, сoutinho, Robin, Ringer, Gould, Martindale, Smith, Green, сraig, Strumpf and Lewi.
 Watkins and Thayer have made provings with the first to fifth dilutions, 5 to 100 drops. See Allen’s Encyclopedia, vol. 5, p. 165.

Nosology

Head, face, and ears

 Headache.
 ** Alopecia.
 Dim vision, twitching of lids and pain in eyeballs.
 For many months could not read more than five minutes without the eyes tiring ; nausea on looking at moving objects. θ Hyperopia cum asthenopia.
 Hyperopia et spasmus musc. cil. ; everything becomes black before eyes on stooping ; aching of eyes on reading and spots before vision ; V 20/30 ; with concave 42, V 20/30.
 Hyperopia et spasmus musc. cil. ; constant pain in eyes even upon using for distance.
 Everything at a distance appeared hazy, and although he could read moderate sized type at one foot, at two feet it was indistinct.
 Blue before eyes at times, especially on looking in the distance.
 After constant and close application to fine work ; retinal images retained for several minutes ; vision impaired and finally unable to use eyes at all for work ; R. V., 20/30 ; L. V., fingers at eighteen feet ; convex 42, R. V., 20/20 ; insufficiency of each internal rectus ; sharp pains in eye shooting back into head, with general dull ache of head ; light is painful. θ Torpor retina.
 Eyes very weak, could not use them even a few minutes without smarting and pain in them, with nausea ; pain and nausea also experienced when looking steadily at a distance ; much vertigo, as if head was too light, especially on moving or looking at objects ; constant dull pain in eyes, or occasional sharp pain. θ сataracta dura immat. et asthenopia.
 Serous choroiditis.
 Tension of accommodative apparatus of eye, with approximation of nearest and farthest points of distinct vision.
 State of vision constantly changing, becoming suddenly more or less dim, every few moments.
 Spots before vision and aching of eyes upon using. θ Spasmus musc. cil.
 Spasm or irritability of ciliary muscles.
 Contraction of pupil.
 Heat and burning in eyes upon using.
 Eyes tire easily and are irritable, especially on moving.
 Headache upon using eyes ; smarting and pain in globes.
 Periodic convergent squint ; strabismus of recent date not dependent upon weakness of opposing muscle ; tendency to recurrence of squint after an operation.
 Coryza with feverishness ; free flow of saliva ; discharge from nostrils ; eyes weeping ; headache ; soreness in nostrils and bones ; profuse perspiration ; dimness of sight ; dulness alternating with hilarity without cause ; diarrhoea or constipation.
 Face flushed.

Mouth and throat

 Profuse salivation. θ Diphtheria.
 ** Mumps with metastatic orchitis ; testicle swollen twice natural size and very painful.
 Eructations.
 Great nausea and retching, often attended with hiccough, and sometimes terminating in vomiting.

Appetite and food preferences

 Loss of appetite, with bitter taste.
 Intense thirst.

Gastrointestinal tract

 Distress in stomach, better by eating.
 Empty, gone feeling in abdomen.
 Thin, watery, copious diarrhoea, with slight nausea.
 Yellow, watery, painless, gushing diarrhoea ; goneness and emptiness from diarrhoea, but no pain ; eructations and hiccough ; nausea and sudden vomiting.
 Thin, yellow, watery, undigested stools.

Urogenital system

 ** Renal dropsy, after scarlatina, or вright’s disease.
 ** Diabetes insipidus.
 Urine dark, scanty ; profuse.
 ** Orchitis : with incipient bronchial trouble (relieved pain and cough) ; metastasis of mumps.
 Flushings at climacteric period.

Plant characteristics

 ** edema of pregnancy ; swelling of face, labia, extremities.
 ** Puerperal convulsions ; symptoms of suffocation, patient in her stupor, being unable to swallow the great secretion of saliva (three cases).
 ** Galactorrhoea.
 ** Deficient secretion of milk.

Chest organs

 ** Humid asthma with profuse expectoration ; bronchitis with abundant non-purulent expectoration.
 Stitching pain in chest.
 ** Hydrothorax ; pleuritic effusions.

Cardiovascular system

 Heart’s action irregular, intermittent and increased.
 ** сardiac dropsy.
 Rapid pulse, with visible throbbing of arteries.

Limbs and spine

 Stooping : everything becomes black before eyes.
 On moving : much vertigo ; eyes tire easily.

Sleep

 Profound, heavy sleep.
 Night : sweats.

Fever

 Profuse sweat.
 Copious sweating and salivation ; profuse secretion from most of glandular structures of body ; perspiration starts on forehead and face and then spreads all over body, most profuse on trunk ; profound prostration after sweating ; unilateral left sided sweat.
 Excessive perspiration either during convalescence from diseases, or in course of chronic diseases, as in phthisis.
 Colliquative sweating of phthisis, very profuse, causing great prostration.
 Profuse night sweats.
 Every few moments : state of vision changing.
 For several minutes : retinal images retained.
 For many months : could not read more than five minutes without the eyes tiring.
 At climacteric period : flushings.
 Left : unilateral sided sweat.

Common symptoms

 As if head was too light.
