About the calculator

Evaluation of glomerular filtration (GFR) by creatinine clearance is used in nephrology to assess the severity of chronic kidney disease.

Calculation of the glomerular filtration rate using the CKD-EPI formula, which is the most up-to-date at the moment. It differs for people of different genders and ages.

The Schwartz formula is used for children and adolescents under the age of 19.

Interpretation

A glomerular filtration rate of less than 60 ml/min is considered the beginning of chronic kidney disease due to the corresponding death of more than 50 nephrons.

When the calculator is not applicable

To situations in which the use of computational methods for estimating GFR is not acceptable (you cannot use this calculator): * the patient's body size and muscle mass deviate sharply from the average values (bodybuilders, amputees); * severe exhaustion and obesity (BMI 15 and 40 kg/m2); * pregnancy; * diseases of skeletal muscles (myodystrophy); * paralysis/paresis of the extremities; * rapid decline in kidney function (acute or rapidly progressive nephritic syndrome); * laboratory studies to resolve the issue of the dosage of nephrotoxic drugs; * making a decision on the initiation of renal replacement therapy; * condition after kidney transplantation.
