 Анализ кала на клостридиальные токсины является специфическим методом диагностики псевдомембранозного колита и антибиотикоассоциированной диареи. Бактерия сlostridium difficile продуцирует энтеротоксины А и В, вызывающие поражение и воспаление слизистой оболочки кишечника, что сопровождается развитием тяжелого диарейного синдрома. Тест на антиген может быть направлен на общее или раздельное определение токсинов. Образцы стула должны быть собраны как можно скорее после появления симптомов и доставлены в лабораторию в день сбора.
