Calculation formulas
Formula for calculating potassium deficiency (K+)
Potassium deficiency (mmol/l) (5 - potassium of the patient's plasma in mmol/l) * 0.2 * patient's body weight
1 mmol of potassium 39.1 mg of potassium.
1 gram of potassium chloride (KCL) 13.4 mmol of potassium
Formula for calculating sodium deficiency (Na+)
Sodium deficiency Total Body fluid (CSF) * (Normal sodium level is the patient's sodium level)
Total body fluid and normal sodium levels depend on the age, gender and weight of the patient and are calculated by the Cyberis system automatically.
Additional information
When replenishing potassium deficiency
The total daily dose should not exceed more than 3 mmol / kg / day, and the infusion rate is 20 mmol / h.
It should be known that the 7.5 solution of KCl is equimolar, that is, 1 milliliter of such a solution contains 1 mmol of potassium.
When replenishing sodium deficiency
Rapid administration of sodium preparations should be avoided due to the risk of osmotic demyelinating syndrome (central pontine myelinolysis)
It is recommended to adhere to a speed of no more than 12 mmol/l/day (0.5 mmol/l/h) for the reason described above. Sodium recovery at a higher rate is recommended only in the most extreme cases. In this case, a hypertonic, 3rd solution should be used, which is administered at a rate of 1-2 mmol / l / h.
The calculator uses a recovery rate of 0.5 mmol/l/h.
Calculation of replacement solution volume and infusion rate:
Expected change in serum sodium (Replacement solution sodium - Patient serum sodium)*PSB
Volume of replacement solution (Patient serum sodium - Desired sodium level)/Expected change in serum sodium per liter
Correction time (Patient's serum sodium is the desired sodium level)/0.5
Infusion rate Volume of replacement solution/Correction time
